My name is John Besancon, and I am a 33 year old geometry teacher and assistant soccer coach. I serve the public at Timber Creek High School.
I graduated from Martin High School in Arlington in 1998 and went to Vanderbilt University on partial academic and partial athletic scholarship. I would transfer from Vanderbilt to Texas A&M University after one year due to the soccer aspect wearing me out quickly. I went on to play club soccer at A&M, eventually graduating with a Finance degree. In college, I was involved also with the Baptist Student Union.
After school, I was hired on as an audit analyst at Citicapital. That was about as much fun as one can imagine. When the chance to move to Boston, Massachusetts arrived, my wife and I took the opportunity for her to attend Boston University's physical therapy school and me to work in accounting at AIG: Lexington Insurance Company. We stayed in Boston for six years, with me earning three promotions during that time. After the birth of our son, we relocated to Texas. I took an opportunity in Finance at TXU Energy, focusing on analyzing the cost of power. 15 months later, I realized that I could not stay in business another 30 years so I moved towards a dream I had been having for the last five years. I passed my proficiency exam in Mathematics 8-12 and began searching for a teaching job. The excellent chance to teach in my home district at Timber Creek High School arrived, so it was not a difficult decision to accept it.
Upon acceptance, I contacted the head soccer coach about helping with the team. An assistant position had just opened up, so I was able to obtain my dream job of teaching math and coaching soccer in my first year of teaching!
It is currently going well, and I am looking forward to what the future holds for me at Timber Creek and with the Timber Creek soccer team.
